The question to ask yourself is 'How do I improve my health and fitness?'...once you figure that out the rest is easy
Your first priority should be your health and fitness...
Here is what I mean by that
I'm going to assume if you are reading this you are a man, probably over 30 who currently isn't in the best shape of their life and you're more than likely thinking maybe those days are behind you or that you are too busy to get back into shape
The fact is that just isn't true and it's probably more of an excuse rather than anything else
The problem starts because most men are asking themselves the wrong questions when it comes to becoming a leaner more toned version of what you currently see looking back at you in the mirror
Think about this for me now
How did you get out of shape? You probably don't even really know the answer to that one and think 'it just happened' or 'it happens to everyone as they get older'
Again not true
Think about it once more and ask yourself what changed in your life?
You may have invested a lot of time in work or starting a business, maybe you have a family and a partner to support.
All very worthy causes and I salute you for prioritising these things but while this was happening your health and fitness was on the decline
You now rarely go to the gym, you don't play rugby, football, go running etc. anymore and your diet mainly consists of what is the easiest and quickest thing to consume with little to no nutritional value.
So here is what happened before you got out of shape...your health and fitness went out the window.
You didn't gain weight then start being unhealthy and inactive.
So in order to lose fat, change your body and start transforming your physique for a Bigger, Leaner, Stronger you the focus needs to be on heath and fitness first!!!
Stop thinking what exercise will help me lose the beer belly or what's the best exercise for bigger arms and start thinking how can I improve my health and fitness
Once you do that the rest will come, fat loss is a really nice side effect of sorting out your health and it's one that will occur once you focus on the right things
Here are my top 3 tips for improving health and fitness
1. Create habits - we are habitual creatures and it's very easy to create both good and bad habits with a bit of effort. They say it takes 28 days to create a habit which really is a small amount of time when you think about it. This can be anything from a morning routine, ensuring you have a nutritious breakfast within 30 minutes of getting out of bed, ensuring you drink water regularly, stretching 3 times a day, this list goes on
2. Be consistent - This falls in line with creating habits. You can have the best diet and exercise routine in the world but without consistency you are wasting your time. I'd rather get a guy exercising consistently 3 times a week than inconsistently following a 4-5 day program and feeling guilty every time they missed a session
3. Follow the 80% rule - You may think this is in conflict with consistency but hear me out. People love to go all or nothing and it helps no one. Health and fitness is about balance and enjoying yourself not being a militant chicken and broccoli eater who berates anyone who doesn't stick to a plan 100% of the time. The likelihood is you aren't exercising and eating right even 50% of the time, imagine the effect just a 10% improvement would make on your life. It would be HUGE!!! If you follow a plan like the one we have at BLS 80% of the time you are on the road to massive improvements in your health and fitness and I guarantee your body will change for the better
